DNA testing is an immensely powerful forensic tool in the investigation of crime. Rapid DNA extraction and analysis enables police investigators to efficiently move cases in the right direction, ruling in/out potential suspects, expediting criminal justice.

A rare opportunity has arisen to lead a team of accomplished Forensic Scientists providing critical DNA testing services to the Police. As Team Leader you will be responsible for motivating and empowering a 10-strong team of scientists to deliver results to the highest quality standards.

Exceptional leadership and planning skills are key. You must be confident inspiring team spirit and providing clear direction to the team in an environment with ever-changing priorities and strict delivery times.

Primary responsibilities will include:

Leading by example with passion and enthusiasm

Direct line management, including performance reviews, target setting, professional development plans, training, recruitment, employee recognition etc

Ensure team and individual wellbeing

Schedule workload and personnel appropriately to ensure smooth delivery of service to clients

Use Lean methodologies to organise high throughput analysis of samples whilst achieving maximum efficiency & profitability

Clearly communicate the business vision and strategy to the team, developing and implementing KPIs to achieve these

Monitor team outputs, taking corrective actions when needed and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency

Communicating business updates to key stakeholders

Manage team operating costs to deliver profitable and sustainable growth & nurture an ethos of continuous improvement in the team

Manage quality issues and non-conformances

Develop internal network to optimise business opportunities and interdepartmental learning

Customer focus with ability to respond to shifting priorities & deadlines with composure

NB due to the highly sensitive nature of the work undertaken, you must have lived in the UK continuously for the last 5 years to pass mandatory security clearance. It should also be noted that the successful applicant will be required to undertake drug and alcohol testing prior to commencing employment.
